FAQs

What Does It Mean To Be Southern Baptist?
With 16.5 million members, the Southern Baptist Convention is the largest evangelical, protestant denomination in the world and with more than 42,000 churches in the U.S. alone. Southern Baptists sponsor about 5,000 home missionaries serving the U.S., Canada, Guam , and the Caribbean , as well as sponsoring more than 5,000 missionaries in 153 nations around the world. Southern Baptists share a common bond of basic biblical beliefs and a commitment to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to the entire world.

What Style of Worship Do You Have at Temple?
In ministering to people of all different walks of life, stages of life, and backgrounds, Temple Baptist has a “blended” style of worship.  We have upbeat contemporary worship music blended with traditional hymns found within our worship experience.  In all that we do, we strive to worship in a way that brings glory to God and God alone.

What Style of Preaching Do You Have at Temple?
We believe in preaching the Word of God in what is called an “expositional” style. This is a style of preaching that allows the reader to come to the word of God, apart from another’s understanding or interpretation and involves three skills:

Observation: teaches you to see precisely what the passage says. It is the basis for accurate interpretation and correct application.  Observation answers the question: what does the passage say?

Interpretation: answers the question: what does the passage mean?

Application: answers the question: What truths can I put into practice, and what changes should I make in my life.

Usually, expositional preaching leads our congregation through the study of a particular book of the Bible.  When you know what God says, what He means, and how to put His truths into practice, you will be more equipped for every circumstance of life.

What About Dress?  Do I Need To Dress Up?
You can dress however you feel comfortable. Many come wearing traditional Sunday dress, while many others come in more relaxed clothing, such as jeans or shorts. We only ask that you use common sense and modest discretion.

Do You Ask For Money?
This is a first question for many people and, understandably so. In our culture televangelists have corrupted the entire concept of giving as an act of biblical worship. At Temple Baptist we believe in the biblical standards of stewardship as it pertains to worship.  Our goal is that of giving joyfully to the Lord—not using guilt or manipulation to coerce people to give.  Because tithes and offerings are a biblical act of worship and because combined resources are necessary for churches to minister, we will provide our church family with the opportunity to worship through giving.
